Collection: Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

Mert Alas, born in Turkey, and Marcus Piggott, born in Wales, met in 1994 at a party at Hastings pier in England. Piggott asked Alas for a light, they struck up a conversation, and soon discovered they had a lot in common, especially their passion for fashion. Three years later, the artistic pair now known as Mert & Marcus had moved into an abandoned loft in west London, converted it into a studio, and published their first joint photographic work in Dazed & Confused magazine.

Currently, Mert & Marcus are responsible for the image of famous brands such as Giorgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Fendi, Miu Miu, Gucci, Yves St Laurent, Givenchy, and Lancôme, and public figures such as Lady Gaga, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Linda Evangelista, Gisele Bündchen, Björk, Angelina Jolie, and Rihanna. Their photographs cover a wide range of styles and influences, but they have become especially famous for their digital enlargement technique and the prominence of strong female characters, full of sexuality and self-confidence: “Strong women, with character, who do not have to talk or move too much to show what kind of person they are.”
