The Library, a contemporary wine cathedral in Serrano

I arrived alone, after lunch, on one of those Madrid afternoons that still retain a certain calm. On Serrano, between the impeccable pulse of the neighborhood and that very Madrid way of turning luxury into a habit, The Library appeared as a well-executed exaggeration: a space dedicated to wine with a scenic ambition, a club-like vocation, and an unusual scale even for a city accustomed to grand gestures. The project is located at number 2 Serrano Street and is part of Grupo Paraguas, the firm founded in 2004 by Sandro Silva and Marta Seco.

At that hour there were very few people, which allowed me to observe it almost as one observes a set before the show begins. The staff was particularly friendly. I lingered on the shelves, on the height, on the almost hypnotic repetition of the bottles, on the wood, on the geometric floor, on that mix between a private library, a wine boutique, and a sophisticated refuge. I tried a wonderful rosé and kept looking.

"An idea taken to excess"

The Library is not conceived as a typical wine bar. Its own discourse defines it as a triple concept: boutique, gastronomic bar, and private club. It boasts around 3,000 labels, a list of almost 80 wines by the glass, and a space designed with a contemporary classicism where wood converses with black, white, and matte gold marbles. Everything is designed so that wine is not an accompaniment, but the very center of the experience.
